Richard Keech, RHCE, RHCX conducted my RHCE, RHCI, and RHCX training & certification in his capacity as Red Hat Asia-Pacific's Chief Instructor. Before we parted ways, he congratulated me for becoming the first Filipino RHCX. I told him that I was trained by the best.

Desperate Housewives

I just finished watching a rerun of Desperate Housewives a few minutes ago - the local network has been tiding viewers over with replays until the new season begins on October 18.

The premiere episode was actually aired abroad last September 30. Some scenes made it to YouTube. This one was definitely an attention grabber:

Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher): “Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Because I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

Was this a racial slur? It appears to be so. It will be interesting to see just in what context those lines were delivered in two weeks' time.

Incidentally, the producers of the show and ABC issued an apology for this statement earlier today:

"The producers of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ABC Studios offer our sincere apologies for any offense caused by the brief reference in the season premiere. There was no intent to disparage the integrity of any aspect of the medical community in the Philippines. As leaders in broadcast diversity, we are committed to presenting sensitive and respectful images of all communities featured in our programs."
