We left Quezon City for Paniqui, Tarlac at 12:00 noon today to attend Tiyong Ruding's 2:00 PM funeral. He passed away at 3:00 PM last Friday. Tiyong Ruding was one of Magie's closest uncles (he was like a father to her), so we wanted to be there when he is laid to rest. Easier said than done since we found out about the funeral schedule way past 11:00 AM. In any case, we entrusted the trip to the Lord, with a fervent request that He bring us there in time. Running at 90 to 120 kilometers per hour via the North Luzon Expressway, we were able to make it to Matalapitap (140 kilometers from Manila) by 2:15 PM, just as the funeral march was getting ready. The ceremony was short and simple. Tiyong Ruding was buried beside his father, Ponciano Abril, and elder brother, Jose. We spent a few hours with Magie's relatives at their ancestral home in a reunion of sorts before the long drive home.
