When our bedroom door started swinging violently, I chalked it up to fatigue and drowsiness. But when the neighborhood dogs started howling, I realized that it was an earthquake. We huddled together and prayed for safety. After three very long minutes, the earth was still. We immediately prepared the car and Phoenix's supplies, just in case a stronger aftershock forces us to evacuate.
